Are You Asking The Right Questions?
Everyday we are asking ourselves questions. What to eat? What to wear? Who to spend time with? It’s a constant internal dialogue that we rarely take notice of but it can have a tremendous impact on the results you get out of life.
It has been said that great minds are those that have asked the greatest questions. I believe this to be true. The questions we ask ourselves on a daily basis can make the difference between failure and success.
Here are some examples that show the difference between strong, empowering questions and weak, defeating questions.
Weak: Why doesn’t my husband help out around the house? Why doesn’t my husband appreciate me?
Strong: What do I love most about my husband?
Here’s an example of weak and strong questions when in an unfamiliar social situation…
Weak: What could I possibly talk about with all these strangers?
Strong: How can I make someone else’s day better here?
When trying to set new goals:
Weak: What kind of realistic goals can I set for this month?
Strong: What kind of empowering goals can I set this month that will motivate me and drive me on to new heights of achievement?
Remember, big, hairy, audacious goals are the only one’s that inspire and motivate us to push further than we ever have before.
Little goals produce little motivation. High goals produce high motivation.
Weak questions are disempowering and focus on the problem. Strong questions are very empowering and focus on the solution.
Are you starting to see the difference between strong, empowering questions and weak, defeating questions?
Stay alert to what kind of questions you are asking yourself throughout this week.
Don’t ask, “How can I get out of debt?” This question is still focused on the problem.
Instead ask…
“What type of automatic payment plan will allow me to pay my bills in the shortest amount of time?”
This question is focused on the solution.
Asking yourself a question will immediately change your focus and put you in a different state of mind.
Therefore, you must ask yourself questions that are focused on the solution. When you ask yourself these types of empowering questions, you will constantly be focused on the solution and the actions needed to reach your goals. That in itself brings you halfway to your desired outcome.
Once you ask yourself a question, the mind immediately goes to work to find the best possible answer. This occurs on a conscious and subconscious level.
Ask a better question and you will get a better answer.
Questions also give you a new awareness of your environment and help you to attract all of the resources need for the best solution.
The most successful people in the world are also the ones who experience the most failure…
They don’t ask, “Why did this happen to me?” “Why am I such a failure?”
Instead they ask themselves, “How can I learn from this experience?”
or even…
“How can I use this setback to my advantage?”
You can change your focus at this very moment by asking yourself the following questions:
What am I most grateful for right now? Who am I most grateful for? What am I happy about in my life right now? How have I been blessed? What can I do today to enrich the quality of my life?
Are you starting to see how empowering these questions can be? As soon as you have answered these questions, your mind will shift its focus to everything that’s great about your life right now. In spite of any and all circumstances, we all have things to be thankful for.
By focusing on what we are grateful for, we put ourselves into a state that will attract more of these same good things into our lives.
According to Anthony Robbins, some of the most important questions you will ever ask yourself include:
What is my life really about? What am I really connected to? Why am I here? Who am I?
Ask more empowering questions to live a more empowering life.
