How to Remember Your Dreams
Some people claim that they never - or rarely dream. However, research has shown that we all have dreams practically every night, whether we remember them or not.
The average person has 4-6 dreams every night.
If we did not dream, we would soon begin to suffer from a wide variety of psychological ailments. Dreaming is essential for maintaining a healthy mind.
With practice and persistence, we can learn to remember our dreams in vivid clarity.
By doing so, we can gain useful insights into our subcounscious mind, boost our creativity, and discover problems that may be going unnoticed.
The first step to remembering your dreams is simply to remind yourself to do so. Just wanting to remember your dreams makes you more likely to do so. When you lay down to go to sleep, say out loud “Remember your dreams” at least 10-20 times. You must do this out loud. It may seem silly at first, but it serves a purpose.
Your dreams are affected by the daily thoughts and activities that you experience. By saying out loud “Remember your dreams” you are automatically putting the action into your brain.
Once you have recited “Remember your dreams” out loud. Say it to yourself another 10-20 times.
Keep a dream journal. As soon as you wake up, begin writing in your journal every detail you can remember about your dreams.
If you awake from a dream during the night, make sure you immediately jot down a few notes about what you were dreaming. Write down any details you can remember. Now, of course, you don’t want to completely wake yourself up, so I would suggest getting a small book light for times when you wake up from dreams during the middle of the night. This way, you are more likely to dive straight back into your dream.
Your dreams are a melting pot of creativity. Being able to remember them can be extremely rewarding.
Keep a notepad with you throughout the day. Often times, something you see or hear later in the day will trigger details of the dream that you couldn’t recall earlier. Record these recollections immediately and see how they fit into the rest of the dream.
A dream that repeats itself is one you should give special attention to as it will often have a special meaning.
If you don’t immediately begin remembering your dreams, don’t give up. It can take a while. Give yourself a couple of weeks practice and you’re sure to begin remembering more of your dreams.
As you lay down to go to sleep tonight, remember that you are about to embark on a great adventure. Sweet dreams!
