How to Find Great Books

By Kim Roach · May 30, 2007

As most of you probably already know, I am a voracious reader. I’ve even written a blog post on the power of reading.

So today I want to share with you how I go about finding great books to read, books that will truly stimulate my mind and expand my consciousness.

Amazon is my first stop to finding truly great books.

They have a portion of thier site completely dedicated to award winning books.

However, that’s just the beginning. I love exploring Amazon by category. So, for example I often just start
browsing their Self-help category to see what’s out there. What really great about Amazon is that they sort their books by popularity. This allows you to quickly find good books on any topic.

Today I went to the Self-help category and found the following great books on the very front page:

The Secret
The 4-Hour Workweek
The World is Flat
Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking
Getting Things Done
Stumbling on Happiness
You - The Owners Manual
How to Win Friends & Influence People
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
The Five Love Languages

And it only took me 10 seconds to find these bestsellers with the power of Amazon.

I can then dig down deeper into the self-help section to explore the best-selling books on creativity, dreams, memory improvement, success, and time management all with just a few clicks.

Another great resource for finding good books is
WhatShouldIReadNext.com. This web site will give you a list of recommended books based on books you have already read. Simply enter a book you like and you will instantly be given a list of what to read next.

Try it out for yourself. It’s quite useful and fairly addicting.

I also make many of my book decisions based on the recommendations of others. Ben Casnocha is one of my favorite bloggers who reviews a number of excellent books. You can check out what he’s reading at
